Leather Care
Good leather gets better with care. Every ALĒO piece is made to be kept, and a few simple habits will keep yours looking its best for years.
Everyday care
- Keep it clean. Wipe your piece regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and marks. Avoid harsh chemicals, solvents and abrasive cloths.
- Keep it dry. Leather isn’t waterproof. If your piece gets wet, gently blot it with a dry cloth and let it dry naturally at room temperature, away from radiators and direct heat.
- Handle with care. Be gentle with zips, clasps and buckles, and avoid overfilling your piece, which can stretch the leather and the weave.
Storing your piece
When you’re not using it, keep your piece in its dust bag in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight. Stuff it lightly with tissue paper to hold its shape, and avoid hanging it by the strap for long periods.
Conditioning
An occasional leather conditioner helps keep leather supple. Test it first on a small, hidden area, then apply a little to a soft cloth, work it gently into the leather and wipe away any excess. On hand-painted and Toledo finishes, use conditioner sparingly, or get in touch first and we’ll advise.
Caring for your leather
Vegetable-tanned buffalo (our woven pieces). Expect it to darken and soften with use. That patina is part of its character. Avoid pulling at individual strips of the weave; if one works loose, get in touch rather than trimming it.
Full-grain calf. Grained calf has a pebbled texture that wears everyday life well. Smooth calf shows marks more easily, so wipe it promptly and store it where it won’t rub against other items.
